cyberbuzz: Consumers Fume over iPhone

  • Colin · 1 year ago
C'mon people lets show some restraint. At least wait a week and throw a bit of a scare into Rogers before caving. We get the cell service we deserve,if we're not willing to show a little backbone then we really can't bitch. Walt Mossberg and David Pogue were both kind of lukewarm on the 3g saying that you can get most of the new functionality with the 1st gen iphone and the new 2.0 software.

Rogers has just announced a new promo data plan for iphone this morning

    http://micro.newswire.ca/release.cgi?rkey=16070...

Hmm.. 6gb for $30, at least its a start.

@ Derek it's a start, but this piece meal announcing of plans is frustrating.

Rogers needs to make ONE big announcement.

To offer new ideas in drips and drabs is just adding to the confusion.

@Colin you can't get a legitimate first gen iPhone in Canada.

Good non-edited piece. Sometimes the final cut erases relevant bits and pieces. Good stuff :)

@Buzz does the legitimacy of the phone preclude it from running the new software as in John B's or anybody else's case here in Canada.

@Colin hard to say at this point...my guess is that if Rogers didn't provision (sell) it to you, you can't use it with the new data plan and it's too soon to say if the 1st gen phones will be able to upgrade to the new 2.0 firmware without having to jailbreak/unlock it since they are all from AT&T (or Europe). Too soon to say as well if you did unlock your 1st gen with the new firmware how the App Store might behave on that phone.

I'm still trying to figure out if my friend buys two phones on a new 3 year term, if I can use one of them on my plan with the new "promotional" data rate. The darn CSRs still have ZERO information -- I called this morning to get clarification, and they told me that I absolutely COULDN'T buy the phone unless I canceled my contract, lost my number (uh no) and started up a whole new contract.

ATTN ROGERS: This is NOT taking care of your customers... At all.

I realize that this is nit-picking, but when you talk about the amount of data, there is an 8-fold difference between a lower-case b and an upper case B. 8 kilobits (8kb) is equal to 1 kilobyte (8KB).
